Mariah Carey had some not-so-kind words about her former gig as an “American Idol” judge. The singer recently told radio show Hot 97 that her experience on the reality singing show was like “going to work every day in hell with Satan.”
Carey says she was the first to sign on as a judge that season and was expecting to be on a three-person panel, adding that she was excited to work with friend Jackson (who has played bass for Mariah Carey in the past).
Though being on the show wasn’t what she thought it might be, she did say interacting with the contestants was a positive part.
“I loved the contestants. And some of them that were so good — and really good people, you could tell — it was disappointing when they would, for political reason, not put people through. I’m like, ‘I don’t need to sit here and do this.’ I would prefer to just put this person in the studio, record a record with them. Or tell another producer, ‘Yo, you should produce this artist because they’re beautiful, they can sing, they’re talented.’ ”
Carey, who has 2-year-old twins with husband Nick Cannon, says she’s looking forward to doing her own thing, both on the road and in the studio.
Still, you can’t cure diva. And both Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj had a reputation of being difficult on set. But who’s the biggest reality show diva of them all?
