Fashion Week is a fun and exciting time for designers from around the world to showcase their work. A competitive industry where men and women attempt to create the new fad that will take them to another level. Many who do not know much about this industry catch a glimpse and it may look all the same to them.
But in reality every dress, every gown, and every garment has a uniqueness that stands out on its own.
Elon Kebede, a first generation Ethiopian-American, can attest to that fact since she has been creating new designs for a while. Growing up she used to join her mother in sewing basic buttons, taking recycled garments and creating something new. This small stepping stone would give birth to her love of fashion and creating new designs. She started to attend a university to study business. However, the subject did not move her, and she reverted back to what her true calling was, fashion design and completed a B.F.A in Fashion Design, from the University of North Texas.
As she immersed herself into the fashion world, she wanted to find her signature style. Upon finding it, she would release her first collection dedicated to her time spent on the scenic island of the Dominican Republic. The ensembles depicted the beauty of the beaches, carnival festival and the cultural dress of the island.
Elon’s first taste of showcasing her work was during the Kansas City Fashion Week. That specific event served as a springboard to then presenting the collection at a charity fashion show in Dallas, Texas. Quickly catching the eye of organizers for NYFW. She enjoys designing couture and bridalwear. Her love for gowns and the feeling they offer is compared to nothing else. This is what she wants to share with the world.
