Musicians around the world have always broken out singles or even albums that shined a spotlight on women. Whether it be positive or negative male performers have penned romantic to whimsical lyrics for their ladies or women in general. This would be such a case with the new release from Brett Altman title “Pretty Long Island Girls”. The single will be part of his third album to be titled “This Is Me” due out in the Spring of 2026. His plan is to drop a new single every six weeks till the album is complete.
Brett was raised in a household where music was paramount. He learned from an early age that music was like a medicine you can fall in love with. One of the most popular shows that was viewed in the Altman household was “American Idol” which captured Brett’s attention right away.
“My dad is a great singer, and I spent many years watching him sing at family gatherings and in our house. My dad’s tastes leaned toward Frank Sinatra and my mom’s leaned toward John Mayer. When my mom first showed me John Mayer, everything changed. I listened to him and Maroon 5 on repeat. I originally thought I’d be a crooner like my dad, until I heard John Mayer.”
Brett was edged on by his fellow college roommates to try out for the Penn State Idol contest. Even though he was slightly a shy singer the first singing clip he shared on YouTube gained a lot of attention. He ended up performing to a crowd of 17,000 at Penn State and winning the competition. This was when the seed was planted for Brett to follow his musical path. He started a band called “Brett Altman & The Locals” and they took the stage at locales like the Arlene’s Grocery, The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, and Bowery Electric.
In 2015 he released his first EP titled “Little Did I Know”. The album was an attempt by Brett to win back his ex. This was his first try at being a recording artist. Some of the tracks from the first album are on YouTube. The genre of music his style falls into is pop/folk and pop/rock. He was influenced by such artists as Jon Bellion, Jonas Brothers, Sabrina Carpenter, and Justin Timberlake.
His second album was born in Nashville after his emotional breakup. Brett was in a studio and penned a new single titled “My Way Out” which triggered a full album completed in 2 weeks. It turned out to be a collection of different genres like pop/dance, electropop, feel good pop, sad songs, and even an experimental track. The third one that was jumpstarted with the recent single “Pretty Long Island Girls” is intended to be strictly pop that would mirror his influences. The current project is playful yet vulnerable and something everyone can relate to. Brett has matured and is more focused on what he was to deliver musically. From September to next year, he will be releasing singles till the album is complete and be performing in NYC, LA and Nashville to promote his third album. Be on the lookout for this emerging artist who is due to create a stronger buzz.
