Canada has been known to be the home of some of the most influential bands in music. Bands like Rush, Three Days Grace, Our Lady Peace and more. It is list hard to compete with but over the years new sounds have emerged from the North American nation that have began to take root. Bands like Jaded Truth who have already garnered a fan base in the five years since their inception.
The band was the brainchild of frontman Kyle Woodland who began playing guitar and singing in High School. He was self-taught and studied guitar from tabs and YouTube videos. As for singing and vocal harmonies he learned by ear. When the band was complete with drummer/producer Michael Small, and bassist Ryder Whiffen their intention was to pay tribute to 90s grunge & alternative, in sound and attitude. What they would eventually do is incorporate various elements like metal, punk, and progressive rock. So, labeling their music in a specific genre is difficult to do which makes them unique.
As the band began to play the club circuit it developed fans and a following. One of their favorite venues to perform was a bar formally known as CBTG’s (currently Pavlov’s Electric Verandah) obviously this was a play on CBGB’s in New York. The bar was the homebase of punk rock & alternative culture in the city of St John’s for decades. They played many shows there and always had positive feedback.
“Only time will tell if we are able to leave a mark on the Canadian alt scene. With each album, we have grown our fanbase a little more. With this new album Rx2, there seems to be more buzz and excitement than ever before. So, we will keep working hard and try to spend our music as far as we can.”
Their current album “Rx2” which is due to drop April 25,2025 was recorded in the city of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. The city of Mount Pearl has a long history of punk rock and alternative music, dating back to the 80s & 90s. The bands success has also been due to a host of college stations spinning their records in Canada, US as well as Mexico and the UK. The new album which is sequel to the debut “Rx” (2020) blends grunge, metal, punk, and shoegaze. Jaded Truth’s sound has emerged more darker and showcases a deeper sound which varies from their EP “Sweet”.
At this point the band has not planned any touring dates yet, but it is one of their major goals. They have performance dates throughout Newfoundland and are doing a live show on May 31st at Erin’s Pub, St. John’s which is featuring a Nirvana cover set.
