Self-taught guitarist/singer-songwriter, Rebekah Snyder has landed on the music scene with a riveting new single that speaks volumes to the masses. Coming from a modest upbringing in a home filled with music it was no surprise that she would follow this road. Her mother played the guitar and sang to her since she was a child embedded in her, the love of music. Rebekah would eventually take up her mother’s guitar and test her skill. Her mother would buy her one of her own just to get hers back. The specific guitar she picked out for Rebekah was a Yamaha black acoustic dreadnought guitar which was an upgrade.
Rebekah would soon switch to electric guitar and perform in all girl rock bands after college. Unfortunately, she went through a controlling relationship that trampled on her desire to pursue music in any fashion. It took time for her to return to that safe place once again. She would break free of that prison that took time for her to find that creative spark until she decided to release “America”.
“Now in the past year, I have finally gotten beyond that (I hope; fingers crossed), and I picked up my guitar again and I released, America. Even though it was a song I had written years earlier, it seemed very fitting for the times we are living in now, so it worked to bring me back. Nowadays I basically want to learn every song I hear on the radio.”
The music that inspired Rebekah to follow into her musical journey were rock bands from the 80’s and 90’s like Joni Mitchell to the Indigo Girls, to the Cranberries. She would study albums her mother had in the basement records by artists like Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, Jim Croce, Don Mclean etc. Nowadays she has come to enjoy alternative country artists like Tyler Childers, for his authenticity unfiltered unapologetic songwriting about real honest life. He is one artist she would very much like to collaborate with if anyone currently.
So far, Rebekah has performed at local venues in PA and has done many Open-Mic’s. Since being a single mother of three children it is not so simple to have the leisure of performing nightly. She has performed at such places like the Heroes Bar & Grill and the Whiskey Throttled. For her recent single she also released a video for the project which was filmed in LA by Marcos Durian which features her daughter and nods to working-class culture with vintage Americana props like Iron City Beer bottles and Old Spice cologne. “America” will be one of several tracks she is planning on releasing in 2025. The new single captures the current issues that are paramount like womanhood and patriotism.
“It personally meant a lot to me to have cast my own daughter to play me as a young girl in the music video we shot for the song “America” this past summer. She is holding the actual photo of my grandfather, who was a World War II infantry soldier who saw bloodshed and death and almost didn’t survive. He many times said to me, “War is Hell,” and he spoke from experience. As a woman and a mother, it’s my duty to educate my own children on the lessons and the sacrifices that our predecessors made so that future generations might live “in the land of the free and the home of the brave”.
Presently, Rebekah is working to release an EP by mid-summer. She has two more singles that are scheduled for recording sessions to record in Nashville, Tennessee. She will be working with Dean Miller at Beaird Music Group recording studio. One of the songs she on the cusp of completing is being recorded with a local Americana band, Possum and the Rails. Expect some motivational music from the emerging artist who is bound to make a mark in the Americana music scene.
