The artist known as Wisin, one half of the powerhouse urban duo Wisin y Yandel, has signed a recording deal with Sony Music and will release a solo album in December. The announcement by Sony comes less than a week after the news that Yandel willrelease his own solo album on the label in November.
“I promise that this new material is bigger than ever, with stellar collaborations and as always great music,” Wisin, born Juan Luís Morera Luna in Cayey, Puerto Rico, said in a statement.
The album, to be titled “El Sobreviviente 2,” will feature guest spots by Pitbull, Chris Brown, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and others. The first single, “Que Vive La Vida,” debuts on Monday (Sept. 23).
“Wisin is a true revolutionary in the urban genre and we are very proud to be part of his team in this new chapter in his career as a solo artist,” said Sony Music U.S. Latin’s Managing Director, Nir Seroussi.
Sony Music announced last week that Wisin’s longtime collaborator Yandel had also signed with the label, and that his solo album, “De Lider a Leyenda,” is scheduled for release in November. Yandel’s single “Hable de Ti” is at no. 9 this week on the Latin Airplay chart, where it peaked at no. 5.
Earlier this year Wisin y Yandel’s manager, Edgar Andino, told Billboard that the reggaeton duo was not splitting up but taking on individual solo projects that would not interrupt their work as a group. Wisin y Yandel are currently judges on thethird season of the singing competition “La Voz Mexico.”
In May, Wisin y Yandel were in conversations with several labels, including longtime label Universal Music Latin Entertainment, on whose imprint Machete they recorded as a duo. Wisin released a previous solo album, 2004’s “Sobreviviente”, on Machete.
