The Red Pump Project kicked off its expansion into Washington DC with its inaugural Red Summer Soiree brunch at the M Street Bar & Grill (2033 M Street NW) on June 21st, with a three-course brunch, unlimited mimosas, and a silent auction.
Red Pump raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls, through its Rock the Red Pump® campaign and events around the country.
Mayor Vincent C. Gray of Washington DC proclaimed, Saturday, June 21, 2014 “Red Pump Day” in the District of Columbia. Lisa Fager Bediako was honored with the 2014 Ultimate Red Pump Rocker Award for her dedication and tireless work in the community.
According to the CDC 2014 statistic for HIV, Black women are 20 times more likely than their White female counterparts and 5 times as likely compared to their Latino counterparts in America to contract HIV via heterosexual contact. It’s ignorant to act as though none of us are taking on the risk of unprotected sex with partners we fully know are not faithful.
